Upper-limb joint power and its distribution in spinal cord injured wheelchair users: steady-state self-selected speed versus maximal acceleration trials

Filed under: Other, Sites, Warnings — Admin @ 2:20 pm

Upper-limb joint power and its distribution in spinal cord injured wheelchair users: steady-state self-selected speed versus maximal acceleration trials

OBJECTIVE: To compare upper-limb joint power magnitude and distribution between the shoulder, elbow, and wrist during maximal acceleration (MAC) versus steady-state, self-selected speed (SSS) manual medicare power wheelchairs propulsion. DESIGN: Cross-sectional biomechanic study. SETTING: Research university and teaching hospital. PARTICIPANTS: Volunteer sample of 13 manual wheelchair users with spinal cord injury below T1. INTERVENTIONS: Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Propulsive joint power magnitude and fractional distribution among upper-limb joints. RESULTS: Wilcoxon signed-rank testing revealed shoulder power was larger for MAC versus SSS (median peak, 101.5W; interquartile range IQR, 74.6; median peak, 37.7W; IQR, 22.9; respectively) (P<.01). Elbow and wrist power were unchanged. Peak shoulder power fraction was larger for MAC versus SSS (median peak, 1.055; IQR, .110 vs peak, .870; IQR, .252) (P<.01). Peak elbow power fraction was smaller for MAC versus SSS (median peak, -.012; IQR, .144 vs peak, .146; IQR, .206) (P<.05). Peak wrist power fraction was smaller for MAC versus SSS (median peak, -.058; IQR, .057 vs peak, -.010; IQR, .150) (P<.05). CONCLUSIONS: Power at the shoulder was larger than at other joints. Peak shoulder joint power and power fraction was larger during MAC versus SSS propulsion. Elbow and wrist power fractions were smaller for MAC versus SSS propulsion. Higher joint power, present under MAC, may predispose manual power wheelchairs users to injury, particularly at the shoulder.

How to Clearly Define Your Target Market For Your Network Marketing Business

Filed under: Other, Warnings — Admin @ 12:15 pm

How to Clearly Define Your Target Market For Your Network Marketing Business

In building your Network Marketing business, it is critical to know exactly who your target market is. Clearly defining your target market with upfront research should always be your first step in planning for your Network Marketing business.

These are several key questions to ask yourself when doing your research.

Here’s a short list that should get you going:

* What is the demographic of your customers? e.g. income level, gender, education, age, marital status * Do they have a specific location? e.g. country, state, city, county * What do they want? * What are their key problems? * What do they currently buy?

Once you clearly define who your potential customers are, you can begin to set up your marketing strategies around them. But until you do, you should not even consider starting your Network Marketing business (or any kind of business).

People so often come up with their product which, in their eyes, are superior in quality, and then start looking for customers who can benefit from the use of this product. When people take this approach, they are at the risk of investing a lot upfront to come up with the products to sell while not really knowing whether they will sell.

While searching for the customers, they will need to store their inventories so that they can ship the products quickly as soon as they find the customers. This causes them to incur unnecessary expenses for storage and possibly lose their initial investment if they can’t find the customers to buy them.

If you can first spot a group of people who has a specific want, need, or problem they want a solution for, and then come up with the exact things they are looking for, it makes things so much easier with much less risk.

Here are a few examples:

* Starbucks ==> coffee drinkers * Borders ==> book lovers * Eye doctors ==> people with poor vision

Each of the above has a specific group of people who has specific wants, needs and problems they want a solution for. It wouldn’t have been wise for Starbucks to come up with the best tasting coffee without knowing whether there’s enough people who can and will spend $3 bucks for a cup of joe.

Now, when it comes to target markets for your Network Marketing home business, there are several possible categories depending on your approach. Here’s a list of possible target markets:

* People who have purchased a network marketing business opportunity before (or who are already in network marketing, who are currently spending money on pursuing a home based network marketing business), who already recognize their need for a network marketing business.

* People who are presently researching your Network Marketing company and seeking the best sponsor, team and upline on Google, Yahoo, MSN or even offline talking to people. These people have heard of the Network Marketing company, products, marketing system, and/or business opportunity, and are doing their “homework” to validate the information about the company, products, marketing system, and/or business opportunity and the best team to join.

* People interested in finding a way to make money, but who aren’t specifically aware that they need a Network Marketing business (yet). These people are looking in your direction with obvious interests, but are still in the “tire-kicking” stage. Until they actually spend money by starting a home based business, or invest money in learning resources (books, CDs, DVDs, seminars), they are just looking.

* People who already buy or use a related product or service of your Network Marketing company.

* People with a PROBLEM who are looking for a SOLUTION (e.g. PROBLEM = poor health; SOLUTION = high quality dietary supplements)

* People looking on the web for your specific product by name. These people are the hottest product leads.

Once you grasp which target market you want to attract to you, you simply need to start giving away valuable content that they are looking for through various point-of-contacts e.g. social networking sites, social bookmarking sites, etc.

Remember, you don’t want to chase after your target market. You want to always ATTRACT them to YOU. Give to get. Give without want. And you’ll soon be attracting them to YOU and your Network Marketing business.

Turn Flea Market Buys Into Gorgeous Home Decor

Filed under: Business, Other, Sites — Admin @ 1:50 am

Turn Flea Market Buys Into Gorgeous Home Decor

Don’t you just love the flea market?
It is a treasure trove for the bargain hunter. You never know what you might discover in a flea market.
You could end up with an entire collection of postcards, or vases, or pressed flower portraits or rather intriguing works of art. All for amazingly low prices. One man’s junk could well be your treasure. Perfect for recession time home decorating.
Who says cheap stuff must look cheap? If it fits in with your decor and you absolutely love it, buy it.
Okay, this can be tricky if your home is small and overcrowded. If that is the case, maybe you should sell stuff on the flea market instead of buying more. Still, you can always rotate the gorgeous finds and display some while keep the rest away safely in the storage cabinets, for when you get tired of the existing displays.
The trick is to go for themed buys. Think collections!
A dozen or more wooden postcard make quite a stunning bathroom display if they carry the same theme (e.g. seaside) and are grouped together in an aesthetically pleasing manner. An added bonus is that they give the occupant something to look at while doing his or her business opportunity and home business.
A collection of flower pressings or drawings or same-themed artwork from the flea market can make the guest room a lot more interesting if they are framed up and arranged in an orderly manner on the walls.
Or you could cheat and get a kid’s artwork. How to create a knock out display has some fun ideas to try out along that line.
A glass cabinet comes to life when you fill it with pretty vases that complement one another. A collection of crystals or costume jewelry will look stunning when lit up in a glass cabinet. A collection of porcelain dishes look stunning displayed in such a cabinet too.
You don’t have to stick to the conventional. Exotic scarves and shawls and fabrics look gorgeous draped over a sofa or a bed.
You don’t need a masterpiece of a costly sculpture to make your home look special. Flea market buys can look amazing if you know how to use them.

Vibration exposure of individuals using wheelchairs over sidewalk surfaces.

Filed under: Other, Sites, Warnings — Admin @ 1:55 pm

Vibration exposure of individuals using wheelchairs over sidewalk surfaces.

According to the International Standards Organization 2631-1 standard on human vibration, individuals in a seated position are at risk of injury due to whole-body vibrations when exposed for long periods of time. Wheelchair users fit this description perfectly; however, little research has been conducted to evaluate the amount of vibration transmitted to a medicare power wheelchairs user. The vibration exposure produced by traversing nine surfaces was evaluated by having 10 individuals without disabilities propel over them in both a manual wheelchair at 1 m/s and a power wheelchairs at 1 and 2 m/s. Root-mean squared (RMS) vertical vibration was examined to determine if differences existed between surfaces. At 1 m/s for both the manual and the powered wheelchair the 8-mm bevel interlocking concrete surface produced significantly higher RMS vertical vibration than the other surfaces. At 2 m/s in the powered wheelchair, the poured concrete surface (control) produced the significantly highest RMS vertical vibration. Based on the manual and power wheelchair results of this study, use of selected ICPI pavers would be acceptable for any route traveled by individuals using wheelchair. Furthermore, a 90 degrees herringbone pattern is preferred over the 45 degrees pattern, and it is recommended that for safety reasons regarding vibration exposure a bevel of less than 6 mm should be used.

Cashing In On A Great Home Writing Business

Filed under: Articles, Other, Sites — Admin @ 11:20 pm

Cashing In On A Great Home Writing Business

If you have ever had experience in writing blogs or stories for the Internet, then you may want to consider a home writing business to generate some extra money. This is a great way for you to make money, and do something creative at the same time. There are several sites on the web where you can place your portfolio, and line up work in the writing field. There are many things that people look for when they are browsing this type of site; some need factual work done, while others are looking for a resume or class term paper to be written. This is an home business opportunity for you to make some really good money, and if you play your cards right and do a good job others will take notice and seek you for work as well.
Straightforward
One of the most important aspects of running a home writing business is being straightforward with a client. If you are not able to accomplish something that they are asking for, you are best served to inform them and move on to the next job either with them or someone else. If you take a job that you are not sure you can complete, then you are running a great risk of closing yourself off of any future work. Any smart customer is not new to this situation, and they are more than likely smart enough to employ a plagiarism tool that can detect if you have cut and pasted work to pass it off as finished. This is in poor practice and eventually the client will catch you. The best policy and easiest way for you to generate more business for the future, is to be good at what you do and be straightforward with the customer from the beginning.
Limitless Writing Options
When you are running a home writing business opportunity, you have many great opportunities to do several unique projects. You can be writing about something technical one week, and the next you could be helping someone with a screenplay. This shows just how diverse the writing business really is, and you never know exactly what you will be doing from one moment to the next. This is great to help break up monotony, and you will not find this type of work tedious or boring. If you think that you can handle sitting in front of a computer screen for several hours per day, then this may very well be the job you have been waiting for.
Seeking Out Clients And Long Term Contracts
If you are looking for ways to make your home writing business a success, then you will want to find ways to generate plenty of clients and long-term contracts. These contracts are very important; as they allow you to pace yourself, and make sure that you have the work presented exactly as the customer wants it. A business like this is no different than any other in the workforce, as the customer is always right because they are the ones paying you for your services.

Consumer participation in identifying research and development priorities for power wheelchair input devices and controllers

Consumer participation in identifying research and development priorities for power wheelchair input devices and controllers

A focus group comprised of persons who use power wheelchairs, handicap scooters and professionals working in the field were asked to participate in a brainstorming session to determine priorities for the development and application of power mobility input devices and control concepts. The group consensus was that durability and reliability are the most important criteria. Essentially, the expectation is that a power wheelchair must work everyday in the way a person needs it and wants it. At the same time, there is a desire to enhance and advance the features of input devices and control systems. Many would say these changes constitute designing “smarter” power wheelchairs, such as systems that can independently detect obstacles and can provide users with more feedback. This paper presents the rationale behind forming this focus group and details of the results of a brainstorming session where ideas were generated and prioritized. The five most important issues as determined by the group are discussed in depth.

Spotting Opportunities Among Scams

Spotting Opportunities Among Scams

There are many other enterprises that are operated out of a home. As you consider a home business opportunity beware of scams. As technology expands and because of the growing interest in the home-based business community, a large number of individuals and companies have organized to meet the needs of budding entrepreneurs. Many of these companies, however, are more interested in selling a worthless business opportunity idea to someone instead of helping them develop a real small business opportunity. So check it out! The old adage “if it seems to good to be true, it probably is” holds true. See (Appendix B) “Opportunities Questionnaire.” Evaluate all ads carefully, and if you suspect it’s a scam notify the Attorney General’s Office before investing in a business opportunity.
You must thoroughly evaluate the potential for the business you plan to operate. Obtaining good advice can help prevent you from making expensive mistakes which often lead to failure.

Power output and metabolic cost of synchronous and asynchronous submaximal and peak level hand cycling on a motor driven treadmill in able-bodied male subjects.

Filed under: Other, Sites, Warnings — Admin @ 12:16 pm

Power output and metabolic cost of synchronous and asynchronous submaximal and peak level hand cycling on a motor driven treadmill in able-bodied male subjects.

PURPOSE: To evaluate external power output and physiological responses of synchronous (SYNC) and asynchronous hand cycling (ASYNC) at submaximal and peak levels of exercise. METHODS: n=9 able-bodied male subjects (age: 20.1+/-2.1 years) performed two (sub)maximal continuous hand cycle exercise tests, using the SYNC and ASYNC mode in a standardized commercial add-on hand cycle unit (counter-balanced order). Treadmill speed (1.89 and 2.17 m s(-1)) and slope (steps of +1%) were changed in a fixed sequence of 3-min exercise steps. handicap scooters Gears were adjusted to 65 rpm. External power output (PO) was continuously monitored with a strain-gauge instrumented chain ring ((SRM) Schoberer Rad Messtechnik). A conventional medicare power wheelchairs drag test was performed to validate mean external power for each speed-slope combination. Heart rate (HR; bpm) and oxygen uptake (VO2; ml kg(-1) min(-1), SMTP) were continuously monitored. Paired T-tests and ANOVA for repeated measures evaluated effects of mode and exercise level (p<0.05). RESULTS: Subjects reached peak levels of performance (RER: 1.05+/-0.07 versus 1.10+/-0.1 for SYNC and ASYNC). Peak PO and Formula: see text were significantly higher for SYNC (81.6+/-11.8 W versus 68.5+/-10.6 W; 26.4+/-4.5 ml kg(-1) min(-1) versus 21.2+/-3.0 ml kg(-1) min(-1)). At submaximal exercise levels, gross mechanical efficiency (ME) was significantly higher for SYNC (12.1+/-0.9% versus 9.7+/-1.4% at 41 W). No significant differences were found for PO (at equal velocity and slope), as derived from the SRM (SYNC and ASYNC), and from the drag test. DISCUSSION: The absence of any differences in PO between SYNC and ASYNC, and with respect to the drag test, rules out 'additional external work due to maintain the desired heading' in the ASYNC as an explanation for the lower performance in this mode. Lower peak performance and ME in ASYNC may be explained by the increased stabilizing muscle effort in the upper extremities and trunk in order to combine power production with stable steering. ASYNC is less efficient compared to SYNC. Similarly, peak performance capacity was higher for SYNC. CONCLUSION: External work does not differ between SYNC and ASYNC hand cycling. SRM readings appear valid for PO monitoring in hand cycling within the studied range of PO. SYNC is more efficient than ASYNC and leads to higher peak performance

Perceptions of power mobility use and safety within residential facilities

Filed under: Articles, Business, Other — Admin @ 8:55 am

Perceptions of power mobility use and safety within residential facilities

BACKGROUND: power wheelchairs and medical scooters enhance quality of life by enabling occupation, improving self-esteem and facilitating social interaction. Despite these benefits, the risks associated with power mobility use raise serious concerns in residential facilities. PURPOSE: As there is no gold standard to assess when a client is unsafe, a two-phase study was conducted to develop client-centred guidelines for power mobility use. METHOD: In the first phase of the study, presented here, 18 in-depth, qualitative interviews were conducted with a variety of stakeholders, including power mobility users, other residents, staff and family members. RESULTS: A thematic analysis of the interviews revealed four main themes: 1) the meaning of power mobility, 2) learning the rules of the road, 3) red flags: concerns about safety, and 4) solutions. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Given the importance of power mobility, safety measures need to address issues of mobility and safety for power mobility drivers and those around them.

3 Benefits Of Continous Learning

3 Benefits Of Continous Learning

We are always taking in new information but the question is WHAT are we learning? As human beings we are always growing, but we need to ask ourselves “in what direction”? Are we choosing the direction that we want to go?
Many people are committed to their “stories” which really are excuses for not taking action. They live their life by them. I used to be one of the people committed to my stories/excuses. Believe me, it was learned behavior. I learned it from many different sources such as family, school, friends and work environments. For example, because of the influence of others at work, I always believed that it was best for me to stay home 4 work nights each week and only be out late on a work night once a week. As a result there are many things I have not done because of that limiting belief that it was “not good for me to go out too many times during the week”. One of the things I missed out on was learning Spanish, something I have wanted to do for years.
So why is it that we should be making conscious choices about which information we take in so that we are Continuously Learning?
3 Benefits of Continuous Learning:
1) Protect your future for you and your family…
We can protect ourselves by learning new skills. With these new skills we can protect ourselves from being laid off or downsized. For example, if you were to go to school once a week and learn something that makes you a more valuable commodity in the marketplace or learned a new skill in a different arena, you could be prepared for downsizing or layoff when it happens. We know in this changing world that there is no escape from change, it surrounds us daily and the pace of change is accelerating.
Are you sitting around waiting for change or are you directing the change that happens to you? We know that we do not get a promotion without a test. Have you ever applied for a job that you really wanted? Did you study, do research on the company and their visions and goals. Prepare yourself for that interview/test? If you really wanted the job, then I am sure you did. Learning something new, preparing for that business opportunity protects us and allows us to get out of our “comfort zone”. Nothing ever happens in the comfort zone, we stay right where we are, even though the world is changing around us. Do you want to get left behind?
2) Learning can change your life
I have just completed a learning event with Live Out Loud and Loral Langemeier in Lake Tahoe. Believe me, it was a stretch and really assisted me in getting outside of my comfort zone. My life has changed for the better because of that experience and I am preparing myself for the future!
The events that have happened in my life where I have had to get out of my comfort zone have all in some way, big or small, improved my life. There are still times where I want to wallow in my comfort zone. However, now I know the perils of staying there, so I do not stay there very long.
When I first started on my journey of building my home business, our dream was to be able to sponsor 10 children with “The Plan”. As we have learned and grown through the process our focus is now to sponsor 100 children. The learning has changed our attitude about life and money, which of course has resulted in changing our lives. The focus of our life has changed for the better.
3) Learning can keep you young
Learning assists us in adapting to change. Think of a time when you dreaded having to learn something new. Why were you dreading it? Was it because you are not in the habit of learning? Did you believe it would be too hard? Did you not see any benefit for the learning? Getting back into the habit of learning is just like starting out on a bicycle, it takes a lot more effort to get going than it does once you have attained the desired speed. When we are learning we are involved with life, we are out with our peers or a whole new group of people.
What are new information are you feeding yourself? I realized that the fiction books I was feeding myself were simply a form of escape. Very similar to the young boy we met on the streets of Le Ciba in Honduras. He was one of the kids who were abandoned to the streets as young as the age of two. What he did to escape the reality of his own life was to sniff gasoline. After meeting him I realized that I was doing the same thing by reading too many fiction books.
After that I started feeding myself with more positive material. If this is one of your escape mechanisms and you desire to change it, you may want to switch the type of books that you read. Biographies are a great way to switch from fiction because they are stories too.
Once we have begun to change our learning habits by making conscious decisions about the information we feed ourselves on, the next step is to teach what we have learned. Teaching others is the best way to learn it even better. One of my great desires is for my family and friends to learn how not to get left behind. That is the reason I choose to write these articles, because assisting you in your learning also assists me in understanding better myself.
I thank you very much for reading this article and welcome comments. Please send me an email, I would love to hear your stories about how learning has affected your life.
The next step is to teach what we have learned. Teaching others is the best way to learn it even better. One of my great desires is for my family and friends to learn how not to get left behind. That is the reason I choose to write these articles, because assisting you in your learning also assists me in understanding better myself.

How 10 People Found Financial Freedom

Filed under: Other, Sites, Warnings — Admin @ 6:00 pm

How 10 People Found Financial Freedom

One of the Starscapes business opportunity programs I am currently involved with and have had some great success with is SFI Affiliate Program. SFI stands for “Strong Future International” and was founded by Gery Carson back in 1998. SFI supplies everything you would need to get started including: a free website, free money making course ($295 value) and 100’s of different products to choose from.
You can even sign up with SFI for free. I have been a SFI member for a little over a year now and have seen my monthly income increase every month as I remain an active Executive Affiliate. You can become an Executive Affiliate by either purchasing products for yourself, sell products to people you know, or checking out the SFI Affiliate Center for tons of different ways to market this opportunity online or offline. These include a master index of marketing aids such as banners, text ads, flyers, e-cards, t-shirts, printed promo materials such as business cards, car banners, bumper stickers, postcards, and x-cards that have the business opportunity printed on them and all you do is add your affiliate link to the back. All of these are great ways to advertise though, as all you have to do is drive your car like normal or leave your card at places you go everyday. Just a few I thought were cool is to leave your card with a tip at restaurants, adding your card to every piece of mail you send out (like bills, netflix, etc.), and adding a small SFI signature link to your emails. These are all simple ways to promote your business & could very well help you get leads to make sales. I also thought it was cool that these are all just “beginner” marketing methods & they even have intermediate and advanced methods available. Some of the intermediate methods are placing free or inexpensive classified ads online or in newspapers. Also, contacting small business owners and local restuarants that deliver food (pizza, chinese, etc.) and offering to pay a small fee if they distribute your card with orders. Also some of the advanced methods are very good, such as purchasing pay-per-click on major search engines such as google and yahoo.
Building your own website, writing reviews for blogs and home business articles and contacting direct mail companies are a few more.
I strongly encourage you to sign-up for free and then browse through the SFI Leader Boards, where you will see SFI’s President Club & Peak Performers. These include valuable interviews & secrets to build your business, directly from the most successful affiliates. You will see names like, Ewen Chia, Stone Evans, The Rich Jerk and Shawn Casey to name a few. I don’t really see these guys wasting their time and money on a home based business program if they weren’t getting paid very well.
Remember, it’s free to sign-up and you make residual income that pays you every month. Becoming an Executive Affiliate is the way to build even bigger profits though. As an EA, you lock in your position in the SFI powerline and earn even more from everyone under you. You earn a GUARANTEED COMMISSION CHECK Every Month. Your commissions are doubled from 30% to 60%. You make up to 200% Executive Match Bonuses. Your able to get SFI products at wholesale so you make even more if you decide to sell them retail. Plus, you make even more if you decide to be a Team Leader once you personally sponsor just 5 Executive Affiliates.
I really hope you take the time to check out everything about this awesome home based business opportunity though. It’s not a get rich quick system, but I think if you take 15 minutes of your time to look over the SFI Affiliate Center you’ll be hooked like I am. Just take a look at how 10 average men and women were able to quit the rat race and find financial freedom working for themselves.

The Internet, Home Based Business and Barak Obama, Equal Change

Congratulations to President-Elect Barak Obama, who will become the 44th President of The United States of America on January 20, 2009. Now, his victory represents obvious change (his favorite campaign slogan), but more importantly, his defeat of Senator John McCain, signaled that the status quo was no longer acceptable in lieu of the failure of well known US financial institution such as AIG, Lehman Brothers, Freddie Mack, Washington Mutual Bank. In essence the American people sent the message, “We want change in the US Economy. Now, are you receptive to change as an entrepreneur?
Although, change is a necessary component of long-term success people still tend to dislike and avoid it, because it represents a disruption in the way things traditionally have been conducted. Needless to say, people like comfortability and familiarity, because it is something they know and most importantly can control so as to attain a desired outcome they favor. Obviously, the change in the current US Economy represents a situation where people feel they have no control and definitely are uncomfortable about their financial future. So what’s the solution for the average person who worries about his/her 401K and other financial investment portfolio? Wait a minute; the previous question is irrelevant, because everyone with any kind of investment has already lost significant value in his or her portfolio due to the inter-connectivity of the global financial markets and economies.

However, the current economic times are less appealing despite, the easy access to the advancement and easy access to Internet-related technology resources that in the past generated massive income for millions of people. So, how do solve your own economic challenges?

Make Your Decision Today

Take a deep look at all your building business credit cards. Check with a consolidation center and find out whether you can get anything that will help you cut the interest rate. If you can get even 0.5% less interest rate, go for it. Even this minute decrease in interest can spin off great amount of cash in the long run. So, always be on the look out for new deals in debt consolidation by which you can save not only a lot of stress but also a lot of hard cash.

Business Expense Deductions

Filed under: Articles, Other, Sites — Admin @ 6:36 pm

Business Expense Deductions

The overriding rule on home business expenses is that you may not have a loss (for tax purposes) resulting from deductions for the business use of your home. You can carry over expenses to the next year. Expenses for the home based business opportunity use of the home can be deducted in the following order:
Real estate taxes, mortgage interest and casualty losses, if any. The portion allocable to business use is deductible.
Direct expenses that benefit only the business part of the home, which include painting or repairs made directly to the specific area of the room used for business (except day-care). These direct expenses are fully deductible.
Other indirect expenses such as rent, utilities and services.
Depreciation - a portion of the value of the home and equipment used in the business is deductible. If you sell your home after taking a business deduction on the depreciation, you must recognize any capital gain or loss on that business portion regardless of whether you buy another home or not.
All expenses listed above are subject to the income limitation (no loss for tax purposes) as mentioned.
A useful IRS publication, No. 587 entitled “Business Use of Your Home,” is available. Anyone considering taking home business deductions should obtain a copy by calling the IRS toll free number at 1-800-829-1040 or talk to an accountant for up-to-date information or check the IRS website at http://ftp.fedworld.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p587.pdf
Income and expenses of a home-based business are reported on schedule C (Form 1040). Supporting schedules for depreciation, self-employment tax (social security), etc. may also be required.

Satisfaction with technological equipment in individuals with tetraplegia following spinal cord injury

OBJECTIVE: To measure the acquisition, use and satisfaction with high technology equipment by spinal cord injured tetraplegic subjects. DESIGN AND SETTING: A questionnaire was mailed to 102 tetraplegic subjects who were hospitalised in the rehabilitation center of Kerpape (Ploemeur, France) between 1998 and 2004, and 59 subjects responded. The questionnaire asked about the use of telephones, computers, wheelchairs and environmental controls at home. RESULTS: When a piece of equipment was acquired, it was very often used. Patient satisfaction with equipment was 79.3%. Home phones and mobile phones were often used with options such as hands-free devices (78 and 59% respectively). A total of 64.4% of subjects acquired a manual wheelchair and 61% a power wheelchair. The most commonly acquired options on the power wheelchairs were the powered recline (73,7%) and tilt (71,1%) systems. All options were used but all were more desired than acquired. A total of 27.1% of subjects desired a pushrim-activated handicap scooters, but only 15.3% had acquired one; 695% of subjects had a computer. Communication was the first use for the computer (82.5%); 49.2% of subjects had acquired an environmental control system, but 20% desired one. The first reason for lack of acquisition was financial difficulties but also accessibility and information problems. The factor that influenced the acquisition and need for equipment was the degree of spinal cord injury. No other factor reduced patient satisfaction with equipment. CONCLUSION: Patients were satisfied with the equipment they acquired. But their needs, especially wheelchair options and environmental control systems, were not satisfied.

Freelance Writing

Filed under: Other, Sites, Warnings — Admin @ 5:02 am

Freelance Writing

If you are looking for a way to start a home based business opportunity and make some extra money, then you really should look into freelance writing as a great business opportunity. When you are a freelance writer, you are in control of how much you do during a day. You can write as many or as little as you can handle, and this is all under your own discretion. This is a fascinating way to make money as you will not only be working when you write, you will be learning about whatever it is you are writing about for the client as well. There are countless possibilities when it comes to freelance writing, because you never know what a customer is going to ask for.
From Apples To Zebras, You Can Cover It All
When you are freelance writer, you can basically cover anything and everything. You never know what you are going to write about, and depending on the customer’s requests you can be very busy. Many times you will have to do a great deal of research to keep things correct, and you should never try to bluff something that you know many people are going to read and depend on. When the customer asks for a specific thing, you have the obligation to give them what it is that they want. If you have an issue with what the client is asking for, it is up to you to either refuse the contract or see if they have anything else that you can cover.
Getting Your Name Recognized
When you are running a freelance writing company from your home, you are going to need to get some exposure in order to generate business. One of the best ways to generate interest from potential clients is to place your portfolio on a freelance writing site. This will allow many customers the chance to view what you have done prior and get an idea of your skill set. You can exchange emails from this point and work out the find details in regards to the work that needs to be done and what the cost will be. This is a great way to get many different kinds of writing work as well; this also opens the door for jobs such as e-books or resumes. If you need to get the company recognized, then clearly this is the best possible way to get it done.
Pay Scales
The pay for freelance writing can vary under many different circumstances. The experience that you have will be an obvious way to gauge what your pay will work out to be, and sometimes it can make all the difference in the world between a small check and a big payday. Many clients want you to be experienced and they are in fact willing to pay well for the writer that knows what they are doing, yet you need to keep in mind that the customer would like to not have to pay through the nose fore the work that needs to be done. This type of business opportunity is a bidding game, and the lowest bid usually wins the work. This is not always the case however, and if you are somewhere in the middle with a great deal of experience and great references you can in fact take the job home.
